Xinxiang is a major city with a population of 700 000. The major town of Xinxiang--Fengquan (60 000) is in the Xinxiang metropolitan area. The 1982 Census gives a population of 508 604 in 195 km², suggesting a figure of about 400 000 in the central urban area. This gives a long-run growth rate of 2.4%.
