The city of Xintang/Zhongtang (400 000) in Zengcheng Metropolitan County and the major towns of Shitan (28 000) and Shabu (25 000) in Zengcheng Metropolitan County and Taiping (25 000) in Conghua Metropolitan County are also in the region.

Guangzhou Region contains the Guangzhou metropolitan area and two metropolitan counties. Its area is 7 263 km² and its population is 9 942 022.
The Guangzhou metropolitan area has an area of 3 548 km² (before adjustment in 2005) and a population of 8 524 826 (before adjustment). The city of Guangzhou has a population of 4 902 320 in 81 street committees. The 2000 Census gives a population of 8 443 407 with suburbs. The 1982 Census gives a population of 3 148 281 in 1 327 km² for the Guangzhou metropolitan area, which suggests about 2 500 000 in the urban area. This gives a high long-run growth rate of 7.0%. This rate gives an estimate for 2004 of 11 000 000 corresponding to the measured area of 560 km². Some of the suburbs of Guangzhou are in Foshan Region.
