Kyrgyzstan (KG) Osh Province

Image: The city of Osh is a center for the re-export of Chinese consumer goods to Uzbekistan sold at markets like the traditional open market in Osh. This image is of the walkway into the marketplace over a busy street. Reportedly, in the nearby town of Kara-Suu, trade with Uzbekistan is pursued so avidly that it is often carried out on improvised "ropeways" over the Shahrixon Canal which separates Kara-Suu from the Uzbek town of Qorasuv in defiance of the Uzbek authorities, who have demolished the towns' bridge. Possibly in connection to this commercial activity, Bayaman Erkinbaev, a famous wrestler, member of Parliament, and owner of the large Turataly Bazaar in Kara-Suu, was assassinated in 2005.
