Aral Metropolitan County is administered by the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps (XPCC). On September 17, 2002, it was created from part of Aqsu Metropolitan County in Aqsu Rural Region. The 2000 Census population of the area is 140 170.
Aral has an area of 2.5 km² and an estimated population of 13 000.
Bingtuan Yisituan (兵团14团 ), the 14th Brigade of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, has an area of 1.4 km² and an estimated population of 5 500.
