Uzbekistan (UZ) Jizzax Province

Lake Aydarko’l was created by the Shardara dam on the Syrdarya in the 1950s. It is known for its fishing. The large size of the reservoir (2 020 km²) has been criticized by experts who say that water evaporates in the lake which would otherwise flow to the disappearing Aral Sea.
