Image: Camp Stronghold Freedom was a US military base at Xonobod near Qarshi from 2001 to 2005 which supported the US military in Afghanistan. After the violent suppression of a revolt in Andijon (in Andijon province) by the Uzbek government, US-Uzbekistan relations deteriorated and the US was asked to leave.
